Therapy:

In therapy, a clinician works with the child or teen and their parent or caregiver to reduce the impact of symptoms/challenges while building skills to promote emotional wellbeing and adaptive behaviors. It is common for parents and caregivers to be involved in therapy to some extent, particularly for younger children. Therapy sessions are typically scheduled weekly or every other week and are approximately 40-55 minutes in duration, depending on the child’s needs.

Our therapists use a variety of evidence-based treatment strategies in therapy sessions such as:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
  • Mindfulness
  • Behavioral activation
  • Modular Approach to Therapy for Children with Anxiety, Depression, Trauma and/or Conduct (MATCH-ADTC)
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
  • Organizational skills training
  • Parenting/behavioral strategies

Comprehensive Assessment:

Sometimes a more comprehensive assessment is helpful, particularly when the source of a child’s or adolescent’s challenges is not clear.

Our psychologist can assess for concerns related to:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Cognitive abilities
  • Adaptive skill development
  • Attention and learning related concerns including ADHD

Assessment provides the opportunity to identify strengths and challenges as well as determine appropriate diagnoses, which can help to pinpoint treatment approaches that may be most beneficial. One of the best indicators that a comprehensive assessment may be warranted is that it has been suggested by your child’s pediatrician, school staff or mental health provider. Assessments are with our psychologist and are individualized depending on the child’s needs and typically involve 3-5 hours of face to face time followed by a meeting to discuss results and recommendations.
